Some recommendations for the Cloud configuration.

Using Office Maker in the cloud involves installing software on the workstation which will connect to the cloud server where your data file is hosted.

In order for the use of this service to be as pleasant as possible and not to be hampered by slowness and connection cuts, it is necessary to ensure that the configuration of your network complies with certain specifications.

Whether in the office or at home, an Internet connection consists of the following:

Local network

Also called LAN, it connects your computer (s) to a device called a "router" making the link with your connection to the Internet.

Your local network can be wired (an Ethernet cable connects your computers to the router) or wireless (Wi-Fi or WLAN network). Wireless networks are practical because they prevent you from pulling cables through your premises, however they are less reliable than wired networks: in fact, radio waves are sensitive to electromagnetic disturbances and the transmission speed is dependent on the distance and obstacles that stand between your computer and your wireless terminal. Even though this distance is short and unobstructed, the speed can fluctuate from minute to minute as other wireless networks in the area and various radio waves can cause interference.

For this reason, we recommend that you use a wired network. Ideally, the Ethernet cable used should be Category 6 (fastest) and in excellent condition (no wear and no damaged or loose plugs causing cuts).

If only a wireless network is possible, preferably opt for the most recent Wi-Fi standard offering the best bandwidth and make sure that the quality of the signal reception is the best possible (the Wi-Fi symbol on the (your computer screen is usually an indicator of this quality by the number of bars displayed). A bandwidth of at least 50 Mbps is recommended.

Internet connection

In the chain connecting your computer to the cloud server, it is generally the connection to the Internet that is the weak link, since it offers the least bandwidth. As with a local network, the connection to the Internet can be wired (copper cable or optical fiber) or wireless (4G or 5G).

As with the local network and for the same reasons, a wired connection is preferable to a wireless connection, because it is generally more reliable. Indeed, with a connection via 4G or 5G, the bandwidth offered by the nearest mobile telephone antenna is shared by all its users and can therefore fluctuate greatly from one minute to another, especially in a urban environment.

Regardless of the type of connection, the higher the bandwidth, the better your convenience.

To find out your bandwidth (also called Internet connection speed), connect to the Speedtest.net website: you will get three numbers:

  • the bandwidth in "Download" mode (quantity of data transmitted in the direction Cloud-> your local network): 50 Mbit / s or more are recommended.

  • the bandwidth in "Upload" mode (meaning Your local network-> Cloud): 10 Mbit / s or more are recommended.

  • "Ping" transmission delay: less than 50 ms are recommended.

If you are on the move (train, car) and you use an Internet connection via 4G / 5G, you risk frequent cuts due to the mountainous topography of our country. For this reason, we do not recommend a connection under these conditions.
