The Swiss hosting provider Infomaniak has published an article comparing its kDrive solution with a dozen cloud storage services on the market, ranging from the most well-known (Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, OneDrive) to lesser-known options.
Various criteria were reviewed:
Price
Security
Privacy
Data location
Support
Suitability for individuals
Suitability for companies
Environmental protection
Each solution is described in detail, with a comparison table at the end of the article.
Overall, kDrive performs well, thanks to its reasonable price and the fact that data is stored in Switzerland, ensuring that it cannot be seized by U.S. authorities under the Cloud Act.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we strongly advise against opening a data file hosted on a cloud drive using the single-user version of Office Maker, as the synchronization mechanism inherent in these solutions is not compatible with how a database operates and may therefore cause irreparable damage to it.
If you want to transfer a data file to another computer and/or use a cloud drive for backup, we recommend compressing the file (for example, into a ZIP file) and uploading the ZIP archive to the cloud drive.
An even more secure option is to choose the cloud or local server version of Office Maker so that multiple users or workstations can access your database without the need for complicated file transfers.
