Manage your local AI with these computer models
Apple recently announced a new line of desktop computers consisting of the Mac mini and Mac Studio with a wide variety of configurations. These machines are optimised for local artificial intelligence (AI) but not only that.
The M6 Mac mini (starting at CHF 899.-) is the ideal desktop computer for our programmes. Surprisingly, it is even the fastest desktop computer in the world across all platforms for office applications, which mostly only use one processor core or moderate parallelism, as is the case with our single-user and client versions.
The M6 32 GB Mac mini (CHF 1,299.-) can also be considered the entry point for a local AI server, with the option of upgrading to the 512 GB Mac Studio, which can be chained to 3 other Mac Studios to reach 2 TB and serve huge local AI models. It all comes down to needs and budget.
With these new machines, Apple is making a big splash and positioning itself as an ideal platform for local AI, even in Windows PC networks.
Remember that the main advantage of local AI is that it keeps your interactions and sometimes sensitive data confidential. It also enables the creation of an AI infrastructure with automated agents to perform various tasks. And thanks to free tools like LM Studio or Ollama, and a wide selection of open-source models, setting up local AI is both simple, cost-free, and eco-friendly.
We have a lot in the works in this area, and we’re excited to share it with you!
